Joining the Cold Party

My area has remained relatively unscathed by the arctic fronts that have been chilling North America over the last couple weeks, but we are joining the party now. The temperature has been dropping the last couple days and we woke up to this this morning:

In fact the radio said the windchill is closer to -50C (-58F) (the wind is almost non-existent but when it's this cold, any air movement makes that windchill plummet). That's just downright nasty.

Kachina is wearing a warm blanket with hood but I really hope she makes good decisions to stay warm (she has a shelter, free choice hay, heated water, buddies to huddle with and room to move to warm up). I will be out to check on her right after work (it is supposed to be warmer by then anyways) but my thoughts are definitely with her this morning.

  3. OMG that kind of temperature is just unthinkable. Do cars even work when it's that cold??? Sincerely, a Southerner. :)

    1. We have block heaters in our cars that we plug in to keep the oil pan warm to help the car start in the cold. It is definitely miserable at these temps but everything works with modifications and life goes on mostly as normal

  4. I just can't. I didn't know people actually lived where it got that cold! I am sooo sorry. Hopefully it warms up quickly.

On the other side of the country, you'll soon be wondering how people can ride and work outside when it is 110.

    Sending warming vibes from CA.

    1. We are in for some more cold weather with more -40 windchills expected tonight, and the highest temp in the two-week forecast is -8C (17F). I am really enjoying boarding in a heated barn this year!

For the record, we get 110F temps too... granted, usually only for a couple weeks a year so not as many days as you, but we really do need to survive the full extremes of temperature here!
